"wonderful and engaging"... "knowledge, humor, optimism" shown at University of Oregon presentation.
Jennifer M. Henke, PhD, Adjunct Professor at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon provides this recommendation after David Oaks addressed her class about social movements on 25 May 2011.
David Oaks was generous enough to give a presentation to my undergraduate political science class, U.S. Social Movements and Political Change. He gave a wonderful and engaging presentation on the "Mad Movement," with a history of the psychiatric survivors, personal connections to the peace and environmental movements, and stories of individuals who are so integral within MindFreedom International's work.
Students loved his presentation, and were impressed with David Oaks' knowledge, humor, optimism, and felt he was very down to earth. David Oaks provided comfortable space for difficult questions and allowed students to talk with him individually after class about issues they were uncomfortable to broach in the large class.
I greatly appreciated David's presentation and willingness to bridge the divide between politics on the ground and in academia. He provided such a real-life story and vision for students, most of whom knew nothing about patient's rights in mental health let alone Mindfreedom International. Thank you!
