Statement from Peter Breggin group "Empathic Therapy" regarding ICSPP

The new organization Empathic Therapy, founded by Peter and Ginger Breggin, issued this statement on 15 June 2010.

Statement from "Empathic Therapy" on 15 June 2010

Peter Breggin, MDDr. Peter Breggin explained that due to conflict with some of the leaders of the Center for the Study of Psychiatry, which he founded and led from 1972-2002, he was no longer associating in any way with the old organization and would not be attending its conference.

Dr. Breggin owns the URL (Internet address) "ICSPP.org" and originally directed it to his new website. As a compromise he has since redirected it to an “under construction” site.

Dr. Breggin and his wife Ginger have set up a new group that can be found at www.empathictherapy.org or through www.breggin.com

The organization has formed a general membership and an Advisory Council, and will hold an annual conference in Syracuse, New York in April 2011.  The new organization will continue to critique modern biological psychiatry and will also put increased emphasis on empathic, caring alternatives in therapy, education, and everyday life.

Loretta Wilson: Electroshock survivor and MindFreedom Michigan liaison

I joined MindFreedom after learning about the Ray Sandford campaign. It was so good to find a group with a common goal. Feeling the support, knowing I'm not alone has been very comforting. It was such a relief to find this organization. Keep up the good work! I am a survivor of 58 electroshocks with a strong desire to see electroshock abolished. I am willing to talk to anyone who is willing to listen. I have even talked to some who don't want to hear about it! I had post-procedure pain from my electroshock. I struggle daily with memory loss from electroshock. I am 69 years old, widowed, mother of 5, grandmother of 7 and great grandma to my new baby girl, 'Sophie.' She's beautiful!
