FREEDOM OF CHOICE IN MENTAL HEALTH

"ONE CHOICE IS NO CHOICE"

Here is how YOU can join in a FREE Eugene Celebration Parade Entry to...

Change mental health care in Lane County... and have fun!

All are invited and welcome to join in! Educate the public! Enjoy yourself! March with us! Speak up for:

*** A voice for mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors!

*** The need for more non-drug alternatives in mental health care!

How to participate along with Opal Network, MindFreedom and LILA:

Just SHOW UP where we are gathering to begin our parade entry!

WHEN: Gather starting at 8:30 am, at latest 9:00 am, this Saturday morning, 13 September.  We have extra signs and markers ready for early arrivals. We'll practice our moves & chants!

WHERE: MindFreedom parade entry gathers on High Street, near 10th Street intersection. Look for signs pointing you to Entry # 85. We will be on the west side of High Street.

For fun we'll have the Big Giant Pill chasing us, and then we'll chase it back! We will all march behind signs with the themes you see on the top of this page. Make history! Join us!

QUESTIONS? E-mail to lane@mindfreedom.org. Or phone the office at 345-9106.

OPTION: If you want, make and bring your own sign that says: "I choose ___________ for mental health." Just fill in the blank! It can be the name of your group or your favorite hobby such as "Gardening" -- Dress as a gardener! Wild costumes, wigs and masks encouraged!

Thank you to all who participated in our successful and enthusiastic pre-parade parties!

We are MFI

Dorothy Dundas

While institutionalized for three years as an adolescent in the 1960's, MindFreedom member Dorothy Washburn Dundas was labeled a "schizophrenic" and forced to undergo 40 combined insulin coma-electroshock "treatments." Dorothy says, "I experienced and witnessed many atrocities. I believe that luck, determination, and my own anger and one compassionate advocate were my best friends on the road to my ultimate survival and freedom." Through a number of op-ed pieces, she has voiced her opposition to abusive psychiatric practices. Her poster, "Behind Locked Doors," which she created from her hospital records, is used in training programs. Dorothy lives in the Boston area where she has raised her four wonderful children. She founded and is the sole driver in her "safe, friendly and reliable" car service called The Crystal Lake Express.
