Free event: Dr. Bhargavi Davar, director of the Center for Advocacy in Mental Health (a MindFreedom International sponsor group), will give a lecture on the globalization of the mental health industry. The lecture will be followed by community discussion moderated by David W. Oaks, Director, MindFreedom International. All are welcome.
Over the next decades, MindFreedom International estimates that the Western mental health system may be reaching as many as 100 million new customers in poor and developing countries.
What are the implications of massive psychiatric drugging, labeling and electroshock, without access to humane alternatives, full information or advocacy?
What would be a more empowering path for mental and emotional well being as the mental health industry globalizes?
Dr. Davar has published extensively on the subject of women and mental health, and is on the front lines of the effort to address these concerns from her organizational location in Pune, India.
She is currently the Director of the Center for Advocacy in Mental Health (a MindFreedom International sponsor group), an advisor on the new Global Disability Rights Fund, and the founder of the mental health organization Bapu Trust.
