What is MindFreedom Oregon?

A brief description of MindFreedom Oregon

MindFreedom Oregon

MindFreedom Oregon wins campaigns for human rights, empowerment, alternatives and self-determination in Oregon’s mental health system "in a spirit of mutual cooperation." Founded in 1986, the majority of MF Oregon members identify themselves as mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors -- that is, people who have experienced human rights violations in the mental health system. MF Oregon is open to the public and welcomes mental health workers, advocates, and family members. MindFreedom has a policy of independence, and receives no funding from the psychiatric industry.

MF Oregon educates the public with events and publications, and has been active in the state legislature stopping bad bills and promoting good ones. MF Oregon gathered Mad Pride oral histories from Oregonians who have experienced the mental health system. MF Oregon maintains an office in Eugene, Oregon that is wheelchair accessible. MF Oregon offers workshops and speaking engagements, and has a state-wide e-mail announcement list that reaches more than a thousand Oregonians.
