Mainstream media bias toward the perspective of the mental health industry, while excluding the voice of critics and mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors, is one of the biggest obstacles to winning human rights in the mental health system. Major media tend to ignore the public service work of mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors, and instead spotlight the instances where someone with a psychiatric label is involved with violence.
