Basic information about Forced Drugging Defense Package

As part of the MindFreedom Shield Program, the Law Project for Psychiatric Rights (PsychRights®) has prepared and contributed a generic Forced Drugging Defense Package, for adaptation and use by people facing forced drugging  around the country.  The Forced Drugging Defense Package is built around the written expert testimony of Grace E. Jackson, MD, and the award winning author of Mad in America, Robert Whitaker, which PsychRights has successfully used to stop forced drugging in one of its cases.

In order to use the Forced Drugging Defense Package in court, people must obtain certified copies of this testimony from MindFreedom, which should make it "admissible evidence."   Only those who have a present need for this formal written testimony should ask for it, and to cover the costs involved MindFreedom does charge a nominal fee.

Rae Unzicker & Justin Dart

Rae (1948-2001) was a psychiatric survivor activist who was a key bridge-builder between the entire disability movement and our movement to change the mentalh health system. Rae championed the National Council on Disability (NCD) report, From Privileges to Rights: People Labeled with Psychiatric Disabilities Speaking For Themselves. Rae is shown here with her beloved Justin Dart (1930 - 2002), widely considered one of the key disability activists of the last century, and also a bridge builder between our movements. Both Rae and Justin were MFI members. (Photo by Cookie Gant)
