Resistance
A poem about how some people get depressed or "mentally ill" as a safe way to resist certain social roles and stereotypes.
Resistance*
She don’t cook. She don’t clean.
She don’t starve . . . to stay . . . lean.
She don’t smile . . . when some man says.
Even when . . . he’s the Prez.
She don’t wear blush. Or shave her pits.
Or line her lids. Or plump . . . her tits.
Even at risk . . . of being called a lez.
She’s too depressed. She says.
