Victory for Elizabeth Ellis: At Home, No Forced Electroshock Over Her Wishes!
"Thank you, thank you, MindFreedom!" says Elizabeth Ellis, 67, a retired Minnesota teacher, who won her main goals: She has returned home, free of forced electroshocks. After 13 involuntary court-ordered electroshocks, including one on an outpatient basis, MFI launched a campaign for Elizabeth, and she has won.
In response to a tragedy: Shooting of Police Officer Chris Kilcullen and Mental Health
On 22 April 2011, City of Eugene police officer Chris Kilcullen was shot and killed by an individual who has confessed. The media identified the shooter as an individual with a long mental health history. "Officer Chris" as he liked to be called was a leader in including people diagnosed with mental health disabilities in crisis intervention training with the police. The local community of mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors has issued a public statement.

Elizabeth Ellis, 67, a retired Minnesota teacher, has already had 13 involuntary court-ordered electroshocks this winter, including one on an outpatient basis. Victory: FDA Panel Votes to Require Testing of ECT Device After Survivors Testify at FDA Electroshock Hearing
GAITHERSBURG, MD: A panel for the US Food & Drug Administration voted to ask the FDA to require testing of the device used for electroshock. MindFreedom members testified at these public hearings on whether to regulate electroshock device.

Mass media have aired many perspectives about the tragic shooting in Tucson. MindFreedom director David Oaks points out media have largely ignored the voices of groups representing mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors, with very few exceptions.
