May Day for Ray: Protest Forced Electroshock of Ray Sandford

Join MindFreedom International in protesting the ongoing forced outpatient electroshock of Ray Sandford of Minnesota wherever you live: Vigil, write letters to the editor, speak out! If you can get to Minneapolis/St. Paul you can join MindFreedom activists David W. Oaks of Oregon and Al Galves, PhD of New Mexico in several days of protests, vigils, news conferences and activism.

May Day For Ray!


Protest the ongoing involuntary outpatient electroshock of Ray Sandford wherever you are.

But if you can join us in Minneapolis/St. Paul that would be best!

• Friday, 1 May 2009 we will be in State Capitol Rotunda, St. Paul, Minneapolis, from 10 am to 2 pm. News conference at 11 am.

• Saturday we will have a strategy workshop, please e-mail for information about that to action@mindfreedom.org.

• Sunday we will use theater to leaflet at the enormous May Day Parade.


Activists who are planning to attend and speak in Minneapolis/St. Paul include:

  • David W. Oaks, MindFreedom Director from Oregon
  • Al Galves, PhD, MFI Board member, author, dissident psychologist, mental health consumer
  • Daryl Trones, father of individual in mental health system
  • Tom Olin, cross-disability advocate

If you are unable to get to Minnesota, then hold an action where you are: Vigil, leaflet, write a letter to the editor, speak out, stand up, stop forced shock!

Adam Voss, psychiatric survivor

After being repeatedly placed in psychiatric institutions, Adam Voss remembered hearing about MindFreedom and decided to hop on a bus to join up. Three and a half days later, traveling the whole length of the USA, Adam arrived in July 2009 at the MindFreedom office in Eugene, where he was warmly welcomed. Adam’s experience with psychiatric coercion began in 2008 when he decided to dance outside the city hall in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. Forcibly taken by police to a psychiatric ward, Adam endured forced psychiatric drugging with neuroleptic or "antipsychotic" drugs, an experience repeated three more times. Having read about the MFI Shield program Adam said, "I realized that by traveling to MindFreedom headquarters I would find the peer support and protection I couldn’t find in the mental health system or even within my own family."
